Myanmar faces ‘untold’ suffering due to US aid ‘betrayal’: UN expert

Trump's getting a lot of things to happen, affecting Myanmar. We'll start with this, from an AFP article. Tom Andrews (an "expert") says that the US has "betrayed" Myanmar by cutting off aid. The USAID money which was cut off was from a slush fund used for a whole pile of criminal activities. Nadhmi Auchi, who pushed Obama into politics, was found guilty by the French of running such a fund in France. France and Britain were at each others throats for half a year over this. Britain was obligated to protect Auchi because Auchi ratted out Saddam Hussein before the first gulf war. Auchi pays his lawyers plenty to keep his name out of the press. Auchi used Obama to protect his multi-billion dollar Tony Rezko property in Chicago, which is coming along just right. Thank you Mr. O. And USAID operates in a similar fashion. So it is problematic that Myanmar would have received most of the money anyway. And the money is America's to do with at it pleases. Try pushing the issue after Trump cleans out some of this corruption.

Irrawaddy has an article by Bertil Lintner: "Will Trump Seek to Engage With the Myanmar Junta?"

I can see that, at best, Lintner has read some Democratic talking points about Trump, or maybe a comic book. Lintner doesn't know Trump at all. I can answer this one for you. Trump believes in the same creed as the Christian saying: "The Lord helps those who help themselves." He won't lift a finger to help Myanmar, unless the Myanmar people get off their rears and start doing it themselves. The Kachins will have to agree to work with the military. The NUG socialists will have to agree that mining could be a good thing. And they'll have to learn to get along with each other. The alternatives are to wait for Suu Kyi to die, or wait for a military solution, which probably means the Tatmadaw winning the war. Andrews, like most westerners, favors NUG. But the claim of a rigged election is plausible to me. Running as a Republican in the US, I was really running against the Deep State, and my the election results didn't even make mathematical sense.

The Irrawaddy also has an article which is making general news: "Trump Freezes US-Funded Media Outlets Including Voice of America".

US official foreign news used to be half-way decent for truth. The international news on Voice of America I've almost always heard from others before, so I don't pay enough attention to it to determine its veracity. So maybe they're reporting on the level. The domestic news grew increasingly fraudulent. They report things which they have to know are intentional lies. I don't pay attention to NPR anymore. Regular main stream media is so loaded with lies and half truths, that I really don't watch it. I think that Trump feels that it's counterproductive to tell the world lies and represent them to be truth. In addition to VOA, foreign governments should get rid of AFP and BBC, for the same reasons.
